The Journey of a Custom Design: Five-Eighths Architecture

Being born and bred in the suburbs of Detroit, there is nothing we love more than supporting local brands. Recently we had the opportunity to work with Ferndale based Five-Eighths Architecture on a t-shirt design. We decided there is no better way to show you our processes than through the experience of a local company. Follow along as we take you through the life-cycle of a logo t-shirt from start to finish.

First, a little bit about Five-Eighths

Five-Eighth's architecture is owned by cousins Grant Jeffries and Bradley Devries. Their firm focuses on residential and commercial projects with a modern edge, and they are well versed in adaptive reuse projects.

You may already know some of their work, as they are the

architects behind Voyager, Detroit Vineyards, and Michigan & Trumbull. They recently purchased a warehouse in Ferndale's industrial district and have been repurposing it as their office.

The Lifecycle of a Screen Printed T-shirt

Step 1

Now let's get to work showing you a behind the scenes look at the screen printing process from start to finish. The first step is creating a design or logo that tells your story. Many of our customers already have their designs planned out, but we are ready and willing to help if you need us. Grant and Bradley's heritage combined is five eighths dutch, and that is how they came up with their name. Five-Eighths had a major brainstorming session when deciding on their logo. We love the way they printed out each idea and hung them on their idea board. You can learn more about our design services here. Vector based artwork is required for all screen printing orders. You can try out your designs on our handy t-shirt

Step 2

Decide on the quantity of shirts you would like to have printed. Due to labor requirements, we need to print at least 12 shirts. The more you order, the more you save. Woodward Print offers price breaks at 25, 49, 73, 145, 251 and 501 pieces. Need more than that? No problem, just contact us for a custom quote.

Step 3

Zack and Ryan will work with you to ensure your design is just right and help you decide what type of shirt to print on. You can visit us in person at our Birmingham location, or work with us via phone or email.

Step 4:

Now the real fun starts! Printing begins at our factory in Romeo, Michigan. We have a team of screen

printing professionals who use the highest quality products and techniques to turn your apparel vision

into a reality. The standard turnaround time for Screen Printing is roughly 7-10 business days depending

on the season. Need it sooner? Rush fees may apply.

Step 5:

Pick up your shirts and enjoy! We think the simple pocket logo on the Five-Eighths shirt turned out just right! What do you think? Leave us a comment to let us know.
